Hands-on guide to building a flintlock or percussion longrifle using hand tools and old techniques. Ringbound, 199 pages.
As stated in the introduction, the goal of this book is to help the reader build or reproduce a fine flintlock or percussion longrifle using hand tools and old techniques. These techniques have been developed by Chuck Dixon during over fifty years of creating and shooting muzzleloading rifles. The book begins with the history of the development of the longrifle, followed by a chapter devoted to issues the builder should consider before purchasing parts. Succeeding chapters cover every step in the building process, from carving the stock from a blank to engraving. The text was written and edited by Dave Ehrig and Chuck Dixon. It is generously illustrated throughout with black and white line drawings by Dave Miller. Includes a glossary, bibliography and a special section of notes for the revised 2002 edition.
